Thursday Thought - Prayer

A circular card is on a grey, white, and black background mimicking a diamond. The image is a collage of drawing, paint, and magazine cut-outs of a hand reaching upward to other diamonds and pearls.

August 3rd, 2023 - Prayer

Good Morning Mystics!

As my spiritual practice deepens, I've begun to explore prayer. I'm not religious, and I thought prayer was heavily tied to religion which made me hesitant to try it. Yet as began to explore and change my perspective, I found I quite enjoy offering a prayer to the Universe, the Great Mother, Spirit, Source (insert your preferred name here.) It actually helped me feel more connected to the Universe, and my spirit guides.

I'd offer prayers of thanks to my spirit guides when they helped me with writing or when they provided me with a sign. Same for the Great Mother—when a sign came from Her, I'd offer a prayer of gratitude. I'd even offer prayers of light, love, and healing to others. And, I'd ask for help softening, surrendering, being. The more I tried it, the more prayer has become part of my daily spiritual practice. Mixed with other elements, I find it sets a good intention as I start the day and end the day.

It's shown me a deeper connection to something greater within and without myself. I've noticed times when my prayer for help has been answered, or I'll say one in awe and wonder, or another in gratitude. In love. I find now, more than ever, my growth along my personal journey shows me different perspectives. I'll lean into the willingness to change and see it from a different light, and then magic appears.

I've also come to believe that prayer is just as much as spiritual practice as it is religious. It's not one or the other, but a melding of different forms. It still connects us to something greater and that is what we need most in troubling times. In hard times and good times. Something to hold us, hear us, and support us. And I do believe the Universe responds. I've seen it many times from personal experience, and I've heard of it often from others, too.

It simply amazes me how if we were to open and see from another lens how the world begins to shine with miracles. I'd love to know: Do you have a prayer practice? What does prayer mean to you?
