✨November 2nd, 2023 - The Hanged Man✨

Good Morning Mystics!

We've had the Hanged Man appear a lot in the past couple of weeks, so I wanted to take the opportunity and discuss this card in a Thursday Thought Post! The Title of this card—The Hanged Man—sounds scary and may bring up unpleasant images, but it's important to note that this card shows a person suspended upside down by their foot. And, usually, there's a halo of light around the person's head.

The Hanged Man symbolizes suspension—this feeling of being stuck and stagnant, like things aren't moving and haven't been for quite some time. We're in a period of transition as things align for the next part of our journey and soul growth. When read in the reversed position this card indicates enlightenment and a new perspective. The time of stagnancy has ended and movement can once again begin with what can be said is an "aha" moment.

Now, I've chosen Matt Hughes depiction of the Hanged Man to represent this post because it brings a new interpretation to the card. In this card, the person holds the rope.

I'm going to say that again: the person holds the rope.

This interpretation of the Hanged Man shows that we can be the one's that cause stagnancy in our life. That we are the ones who create a story where we're stuck and we can't find movement no matter what we do. I thought this was mind blowing! I had never seen this in the Hanged Man card, yet artist Matt Hughes brought it out with this illustration. And then I thought to myself, "Well, duh. Of course that's what this card can mean. Why didn't I see it before?" (I didn't see it before because tarot is a system you constantly learn new things in! Every card holds many mysteries and new meanings if you study them long enough)

If we hold the rope, we can also let go! And that's where it can be difficult because we've been used to seeing something a certain way for such a long time, or being in a certain state that's familiar. But if we do want to move along our path, to see new perspectives, sometimes we need to let go. In letting go, we free and open ourselves, but the experiences and lessons are always there.

Within this addition to the Hanged Man, I'd also say there are other times when we might not be holding the rope and it's a cycle transition from one state of being into the next. In this state, we're on a path that's bringing us somewhere new. When we reach that place, it might be us holding the rope when we want to hold on to what has been, what was, because of fear and uncertainty for the new present and future. In those moments, the card shifts.

We can always find new perspectives and let go while remembering the past. we are not confined to one state or one place. We are fluid like nature, always cycling and changing. And, this card offers us a chance to look into our lives and see where we might be holding the rope, or life, the Universe, God, Source, the Divine, etc. is holding us.

Note: This post will not resonate with everyone and that's okay. Take what does and leave the rest. Trust your intuition!
